L’Impero delle Traduzioni

Case studies / Browser game · Gamification

The Empire of Translations: run an agency, for fun.

A browser game we built ourselves: a simulator where you take over a translation agency — orders coming in, translators to assign, a reputation to grow. It is the only one of its kind in the world, and it is the creative side of the same team that designs websites and web apps.

The challenge

How do you tell a craft without driving visitors away.

A translation agency is made of invisible things: quotes, language pairs, deadlines, revisions, glossaries. Try to explain them with a brochure and people yawn — and whoever lands on the site leaves within seconds.

We needed a way to tell that work that would keep people on the page rather than push them off it. Something you could touch, not just read.

Our idea

What if the craft became a game?.

We turned running a bureau into a simulator that opens right inside the browser. Nothing to install: you click and find yourself at the helm of your own agency. You learn how the work actually goes while having fun — and, without noticing, you stay on the site.

Runs in the browser, with nothing to download or install
Born in Russian, now playable in Italian too

Inside the game

An agency to keep running, turn after turn.

At its heart it’s a management simulator: orders arrive, you need the right people to deliver them, and every delivery leaves a mark on your reputation. The bigger the agency grows, the more interesting the game gets — just like a real bureau.

How you play

01The orders come in. Each game is a stream of requests to handle: which to accept, how to prioritise, what to promise the client.
02The translators at work. You put the right people on the right projects and keep an eye on workloads, because no one works well under pressure.
03Your reputation grows. On-time deliveries and happy clients push the agency’s name up; slip-ups pull it down.
04The empire expands. The more you grow, the more orders, choices and surprises there are to hold together.

Why it’s unique

Before this, no translation-agency simulator existed anywhere in the world: this is the first
It was born in Russian and is much loved by the Russian-speaking audience
We translated it into Italian and it’s winning over the Italian market too
It tells a real craft, with its real rules, in the shape of a game

Why a game

Gamification is marketing, not a toy.

A game isn’t a gimmick: it’s a tool. It keeps a visitor on the page far longer than any text, it tells them who you are while they have fun, and it leaves a memory a brochure never could. People who played come back, talk about it, and tie your name to an experience — not to a leaflet.

It’s the same principle we bring into clients’ projects: when it makes sense, an interactive experience is worth more than ten paragraphs. And it’s the kind of idea we happily pair with a website restyling or migration, to give it an extra gear.

The result

People actually play it.
